UI Design Trends in 2023 – List of Essential User Delighters from Vitaly Friedman

What are the UI design trends in 2023?
When we consider user preferences, it’s been consistent for the past two decades. The recurring needs are a fast and easily accessible experience, prominently large and legible text, sizable checkboxes, and distinct radio buttons. Input boxes should resemble input boxes, not necessarily following material design trends. Effective use of focus and active states is crucial. Simple password requirements are fantastic, and spacious clickable areas enhance user interaction. Clear error messages contribute to a positive user experience.

Attend to small details, like maintaining input persistence on refresh and ensuring responsive dropdowns. Providing an undo option for user mistakes is valuable. Language selection should not be assumed based on location; decoupling language, currency, and other preferences is essential. Avoid autorotating carousels for accessibility reasons; users often scroll past them without engagement. Infinite scroll is another aspect worth exploring.

A functional back button is a user’s comfort; addressing issues with its functionality is vital. Lastly, reconsider the placement of error messages, often more effective when positioned above, not below, text inputs. These considerations contribute to a user-centric design and enhance overall usability.”
