Bare metal refers to a computer system or hardware that does not have any operating system, software, or firmware installed on it. It is essentially a raw, unconfigured setup where the hardware components are directly exposed without the presence of an operating system to manage and control their operation. When an operating system is installed on a bare metal system, it is called a “bare metal installation.”
In the context of virtualization, bare metal can also refer to a hypervisor that is installed directly onto the hardware, rather than being hosted within an existing operating system. This type of setup is known as bare metal virtualization and allows for better performance and resource allocation compared to hosted virtualization solutions.
